I Cheated Death at Zion National Park

June 2nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

Yesterday Stacy Makdad and I went hiking at Zion National Park with our new friends Paul Klein and his family. We had an absolutely awesome trip with spectacular views, quiet moments at the Emerald Pools and a perilous and death-defying climb to the top of Angels Landing :-)

You can read Pauls blog post about the hike here.

Paul is one of my subscribers and a fellow marketer, and when he heard that I would be coming back to Las Vegas again, he seized the chance and invited me to visit Zion with him and his family as guides. We finally managed to get the logistics worked out, and my leg healed after a workout injury, and Stacy and I headed out at 7 am sunday from Las Vegas to Utah, arriving at Zion after a 3 hour drive.

The 5 mile, 3 hour hike and climb to Angels Landing was the greatest physical and mental challenge of my life to date. I have pretty much cured myself of fear heights over the past few years, but this was the ultimate test. During the last stretch to the top, which seemed like going on and on forever, the only thing separating me from falling to my death hundreds of meters below, was holding on for dear life to a chain, tree or rock outcropping … But there was no quitting now … I was not about to turn back after coming this far. I conquered the last remnants of my fear of heights and made it all the way to the top!  It was well worth it, for the spectacular views, and for the deeply satisfying feeling of accomplishment. As Ken McArthur would put it, I set a goal and took Massive Action to Completion to reach it!

Later this week at jvAlert Live! in Philadelphia, I will be on stage facing 200 attendees and a panel of some of the top names in Internet Marketing, presenting one of my next marketing ideas. This is my next big personal challenge, but having accomplished this mind-stretching climb to the top of Angels Landing at Zion, I am ready to face just about anything :-)   I hope to see YOU there at jvAlert Live! too.

I have a ton more pictures and videos from the Zion hike, and I will be uploading them to my Flickr photostream soon.

Thank you,
Odinn Sorensen
