Chris is currently putting the finishing touches on her new book, “Work the Web: The WebWise Guide to Doing Business Online” which is due to hit shelves in bookstores worldwide this November.
I will appear in the book with quotes and a bonus chapter on Giveaway Marketing.
These are my raw quotes for the book:
The lesson I learned that has helped me most is…
Believe in yourself and that you have what it takes, even faced with all kinds of resistance around you, disasters crashing down on you and bills piling up relentlessly. You can do it. Don’t be a quitter. Never give up on moving forward with realizing your lifes dream.
Marketing is important because…
People who want and need a product that you have, just don’t know you exist unless you find ways to get their attention. Marketing in it’s many facets is just a way to get in front of your target audience and get noticed. Done ethically and tastefully, and when you truly have a great product that people need and want, marketing is nothing to be ashamed of.
Women in business should know…
Women play a very important role in business, because women in the marketplace actually control a vast majority of the available spending power. It’s crucial to understand this fact and acting on it when you’re the woman business owner, consultant, associate or some other capacity in a business. If you don’t have women in your business, you’re leaving money on the table, plain and simple.
The best thing about the internet is…
What I love about the internet is how it’s such an incredibly vast sea of information. Every day you can stumble upon the most amazing discoveries and intriguing human creations. What the human mind can conceive and create is just mindblowing to me.
What people need to understand about doing business online is…
Running a successful online business takes passion, true dedication, commitment to quality, caring about your customers and real effort. Focus on building a real business that provides the products and services that your customers need and want, then your success and business will grow.
Common mistakes that business owners make include…
Some common mistakes you need to watch out for as a business owner are:
- Not having a clear vision of what you want to achieve with your business. Try to visualize an ideal day where you have achieved your vision and write down what you see, from you wake up until you go to sleep.
- Starting too many projects and not finishing any of them. Pick one project and work on it until it’s finished. It’s better to have one finished project out there and working for you, rather than ten unfinished projects going nowhere slowly.
- Thinking that you can do everything yourself. Even if you do have all the skills to run your business, you need to find ways to free up your valuable time.
- Buying all the shiny new courses that come along is a waste of your money and time. Follow and model one “guru” you like (watch what he does, not what he says) and make sure you learn the basics before picking up all the fancy stuff.
Using the media to get attention is key because…
Having a solid presence and following on the internet is great, but appearances in offline media (tv, radio, newspapers) puts you in front of potentially massive numbers of people who would never think to find you on the internet, or even give you the time of day if they did. The perceived authority of offline media channels rub off on you, and you will automatically be considered an authority and expert in your field – assuming you don’t make a fool of yourself!
The truth about doing business online is…
The truth about doing business online is, that there is no real shortcut to success. You can become an overnight success, but it can take years of study and hard work to get there. Having the right mindset, choosing the right mentors and role models, and deciding what “your thing” is and being passionate about it, is crucial to doing business successfully online and getting there faster. Stop looking for shortcuts and “make money fast” schemes, get a solid grip on the basics and expand from there as you learn what really works for you.
One of my secrets to success is…
I realized early in my study of internet marketing that I had to decide if I wanted to A) be the superstar, or B) work behind the scenes. Either way can lead to great success, but wildly different kinds. In my previous day jobs I had the role of working behind the scene and doing a great job at that, but in my earlier businesses I always had a fairly high public profile. So it came naturally for me to decide to be the superstar. That has shaped my decisions and much of my success so far.
Networking/Social Networking is invaluable because…
No man or woman is an island. In my experience of going to live events and networking is that each time I have grown new friendships and relationships and deepened existing ones. The people you meet are your support network, people you know, like and trust and you are part of theirs. In a sense you grow an extended family. Of course it is also a great opportunity to connect on a business level and work out joint ventures, but it is so much better when you are also real life friends.
