Like Arika, I’m sometimes guilty of some Larry-ness! and I try really hard not to ask too much of others in those instances (my apologies if I’ve ever taken advantage)

Luckily, I’ve not come across to many people asking last minute stuff without really good reasons and I’m always happy to help people that I know would reciprocate without question but demanding people that I don’t know that
well…not so much.

Hi Nicole,

I’ve dealt with a few Last-Minute Larry’s in the past and I always tried to bend over backwards to help them out, which in the end didn’t pan out for me.

Now when I receive emails from someone that fits this description I will send them quick emails letting them know that I simply can’t help them out on such short notice and next time to contact me at least 2 weeks in advance before their expected launch date.

I loved your Networking Mistakes series posts, great stuff.

I must admit I’ve been a Last Minute Larry in the past. Shame on me!

As you’ve said I don’t expect anyone to “jump through hoops.”

When I know I’m running out of time I absolutely will NOT go begging someone to help me. I ask my closest friends only and ONLY if I’ve got a favor to cash in on or can offer them something in return.

That being said, even then I let them know there are no strings attached and it’s ok if they can’t. I really do understand. If they do help me out (bless their heart) I make sure to go above and beyond to reciprocate in some way.
